How accurate is it? I am getting various answers depending on the website I am reading info on.

Its VERY innaccurate.
It depends heavily on a user base who have Alexa toolbar installed. From what I gather, a very small amount of users compared to internet as a whole.
Does anyone here actually use it??
But, its still of some use. It can give you a rough idea about a site's size, trends for that site etc.
Like any statistics its based on average.
And niche sites are probably more inaccurate than a alexa ranking for a normal website. Surfers who visit gay porn sites are already a minority, so if you then think about how many of those uses Alexa..
Its still great fun though! Very addictive, but unfortunatley just not very accurate.

If you compare apples to apples it can be useful to say one site is doing better than another. But it really is important to compare sites with similar types of users.
The other thing is, it only starts being somewhat accurate for sites with Alexa scores less than 100,000. If you're in the 100,000 to 300,000 range it's a rough estimate at best. Higher than that and it's a crap shoot...
Still, if someone's Alexa score is 5,000,000 and they say they have great traffic - they're lying.

Ya I do feel its a good indicator over all, and a good way too see where the strengths in numbers are for the most part. Always going to be exemptions, and ya when u break it Way down into very small niches the number will become even less reliable. And type of traffic matter allot in this game too, as they are not all the same some convert much better u have to keep in mind.
Hell its Fun too ;) I like to use with it when, doing many things its not perfect in any way but hell its about the best we got

I have many sites. It thinks the ones with the least traffic have lots of traffic and the one with the most traffic it thinks has almost none hahahaha
AT BEST:
under 100K has some traffic
101K - 300K MIGHT have great traffic
301K-500K is listed everywhere but probably not huge traffic
500K+ could have a million hits a day and be new.... or could have 0 traffic

I have three domains that have the SAME EXACT Alexa. That confuses me.

Well, one things for sure, it doesn't represent sales, or at least, not as far as I'm concerned! I rarely visit it because it's just so wildly out compared to my own sales / web-stats trends ;-)

Alexa has never truly had a good reputation for being close to accurate, or reliable. I rely on the log results and the monthly balance from my Bank long before I even think about checking Alexa. It is also, from what I have heard over the years, too easy to manipulate and create false numbers.

For my domains, the Alexa stats track relatively closely with my server stats (one fairly high traffic domain and the other domains are low traffic).
