I just recieved a email from my Boyfriends Hotmail account. Its been sent out from hotmail, and sent to all his contacts that he has stored in hotmail.

The email sent out is a plain spam message, cant see it having any viruses in it.

But does this mean that either the computer he uses has a virus or something has gotten into hotmail? He uses that new updated hotmail live account

I'm a bit confused not sure where I'm supposed to look for the virus.

it gets even weirder. We logged into his hotmail account, and in his SENT folder is that one spam message.

So somehow a spam was sent out from and by his hotmail account while he wasnt even logged in. It was sent out by hotmail when we where sleeping. the computer was off..

Ive searched everywhere and of course nothing from Microsoft or Hotmail about securty breaches or spam.

Bjorn,

I am not sure if this is related. But, I got three or four MSN's ims from my bf when his computer was not on as well. I think i posted about this a while back.

On another not, be very careful w/ Facebook. Somehow someone has this bot that was having other users send out things to write on other peoples wall. I got one from my bf as well that got pasted on my wall that he never sent.

that happened to a friend of mine on her hotmail account too, it turned out to be a virus on her computer. Do a free scan from avast.com or antivirus.com to be sure!

Ok. I will do. I was thinking it wasnt virus since it was send in hotmail when the computer wasnt even on.

But knowing my boyfriend and his computer skills (3 rebuild and reinstalled laptops in a year) it might be a virus..

is the email showing in the sent box in his hotmail account?

I would think it would be a phishing thing to be honest. Do you think he may have clicked something and it asked him to log in again and it was a different site maybe? I know on myspace those things are very common and it probably wouldn't take much for someone to do the same thing with hotmail. That would explain why it shows up in his sent box as well. Try changing the password and see if it stops

It is showing in his sent box on hotmail. THats the weird thing.

I searched a bit online, and found some similiar issues but Hotmail / microsoft never respond to those support requests raised about this issue.

while it could be a virus, it could also be that someone hacked his hotmail account or guessed the password. the fact that the email shows in his outbox made me guess that that is what happened.

I dont think it is that, its only happened once and from some other posts about this issue it doesnt seem to me that he has done anything or anyone guessed his details. Probably something on their servers.. but have feeling we never will know for sure.
