.ME has incredible potential for Internet users world-wide. It is one of the recent TLDs approved by ICANN and is expected to be utilized as both a Personalized Web address and as a catchy business marketing tool around the world. For the first time in Internet history, domain names are essentially personal.

Who can register a .ME Domain Name?

Anyone is eligible, and no trademarks are required.

How does the .ME Landrush Process work?

The .ME Landrush will take place between 6th June and 26th June, 2008 during which the Registry will be accepting applications for .ME Domain Names. Customers can, however, start pre-applying for the Landrush right away, through us. The actual allocation of the Domains will take place after the Landrush ends. When any Customer applies for a .ME Domain Name, there could be 2 possible scenarios-

* Customer is the sole applicant: In case our Customer is the only one applying for the concerned Domain Name throughout the Landrush, then the Domain Name will be allocated to him post the Landrush.
* There are multiple applicants: In case there are more than one applications for that Domain Name, the Registry will allocate the Domain place based on an Auction. Customer will then be able to register that Domain Name only by placing the highest bid for it. This Auction will be conducted by the .ME Registry and take place post the Landrush. If any of our Customers Domains' do qualify for an auction, they will be notified of the date of the auction and the auction site URL. In addition, the applicant will be sent credentials (via email) that must be used prior to the start of the auction to establish a qualified bidder’s account.

Please Note:

* Customers will not be able to see the .ME Domain Names that have been applied for, in your respective Control Panels during the Landrush. Only once a Domain is successfully registered, you will be able to view/manage it in the Control Panel.

No, Montenegro. It was a part of the former Yugoslavia, then later Serbia & Montenegro. They declared independence in 2006.

gotta love those country level extension scams.

i remember some doofus trying to market .mn(mongolia) as a TLD for the state of Minnesota and another scam involving .ws(western samoa) as 'web site'

So, there no preferential treatment for owners of the .com version of the domain? For example, if you owned fuck.com, you will have to bid at auction against others to get fuck.me? That doesn't seem fair.

Actually, it isn't any different than if you wanted fuck.net. It's just another extension that's available.
