Do you ever monitor the temperature in your servers' data center? My servers have temperature sensors on the air intakes. My old data center used to run a bit hot, but the one I've been at for the last year or two is usually pretty good. I just checked and the intakes are reading between 70 and 72 F (21 to 22 C). They used to read in the 60s, but then they put other servers above and below mine, so it got a few degrees hotter.

So what's the temperature at your data center?

The DCs I've been in were...well, arctic. It may have been 60 but after about an hour in them I'd wish I brought gloves. Since power and especially cooling are the biggest expenses, I'd guess a lot of DCs are backing off the old standards. The more imp number to look at is CPU temp and so forth -- can give you clues about how effective your server cooling is.
