View Full Version : The Best Domain Register

I have lots of domains at lots of different places, and last month I accidently let one expire because I missed the renew. I am thinking about putting all my domains into one basket, and I have been impressed with GoDaddy.

I was wondering if:

1. Is it safe to put all your eggs into the same basket? If that registrer goes bankrupt, or whatever, are you totally screwed?

2. Is GoDaddy the place to be or where do you put all your eggs?

I think godaddy is a safe bet when it comes to domains. They're well established and very cheap for domains. Just dont host with them.

They also let you choose whether to auto-renew or renew manually.

i'm not a godaddy fan. their advertising is insane, their interface is annoyingly complex and i know a couple people who had their domains hijacked there and it took a few days to get sorted out.

Ooh really? I agree with the advertising comment, a bit OTT from godaddy. But hijacking i've never known? Isn't that a danger with any registrar?

Michael,

I like Enom. So far better than anything I have ever experienced. I am actually transferring all my domains to them.

I use DirectNic
and I haven't had any complains
the only thing is that they chage 15 per domain.
So I'm thinking to move mine to another registrar just to save some money.
But I would not move to Godaddy

If you have a lot of domains hit me up and I can get you an account at Enom for $10 a domain name. I am switching all my domains from DN to Enom. The Enom interface is so much better. And their DNS is second to none.

I agree that their interface is annoyingly complex. Where do you host yours?

i'm almost embarrassed to admit that i use directnic. i know that they had an episode where they took someone's domain offline when they questioned the legality of the content. but for me, with no explicit content at all, their service, interface and the rest are a winner. and since i'm not a domain addict, i can live with $15 per domain.

i do have one domain on namecheap, but that's because i bought it and can't figure out how to transfer it away *LOL*

I've got ALL my domains at namecheap. Godaddy is about as secure as a ziplock bag and well... directnic likes to play police with peoples shit.

Plus namecheap offers free whois guard on new domains and it's really cheap to buy it later versus GoDaddy and their like $9 whoisguard... Btw, domains are less than 9 bucks/pop at NC if you use a coupon there's ALWAYS coupons too

NAMECHEAP FTW

JD, someone from ADX sold me a domain from namecheap and was unable to transfer it out. there is actually no option to do so, and when he called them they were no help, even though they kept him on the phone for 45 minutes. and so far, i've had no luck transferring it away, either.

i'm not really impressed with a registrar that won't let you transfer your domains to other registrars myself. do you happen to know how to acheive this with namecheap?

I just moved all my domains over to Enom.com (http://www.enom.com), and must say I'm VERY impressed. They are not too expensive, but mainly the speed and efficiancy of their services are excellent!

Highly recommend them to anyonew without hesitation! 666

DomainShack is an enom reseller, Eric runs this and his service is top notch. If you have quite a few domains (and who doesn't!!!) get in touch with him directly on info@DomainShack.com and he will set you up on a $10 account using the enom single admin interface.

BTW "Landrush" deals on .ASIA are $24.00 until March 12th.
The .ASIA registry is following the auction model for domains that will receive more than one application during the Landrush period. Customer will be required to register for a minimum of 2 years, as mandated by the .ASIA Registry.

Yup, I should have said that! Luke is right, do that rather than directly with Enom.

Be carefull thought, I think through Enom you will have to have a office in Asia to be able to register or qualify.

All you need to ensure is that at least one of the Domain Contacts (Registrant, Admin, Tech, or Billing) should reside in one of the .ASIA countries. The Domain Contact used for this purpose, will be referred to as the CED (Charter of Eligibility Declaration) Contact.

Can I register? Can't seem to find .es anywhere else.
* There are no registrant or location restrictions for .ES - anyone can register an .ES domain from any location.
* There are no DNS/zone requirements to be met prior to registering a .ES domain name.

Sure, sign-up at:

Ok, so this thread kind of went on a tangent from my original question...:D

From what I can tell however, there seems to be no consensus or "leader" when it comes to who to register with...except maybe Enom. I will have to go and check them out. Thanks everyone.

You've got that right Patti! I totally get lost in my Godaddy CPanel. If I can even get there. The way it's laid out is just retarded IMO. And yes, the ads are also retarded. LOL.

I have several sites hosted with Naked Hosting and I have to say they are the best I've ever dealt with. They charge $15/year for a domain but it's propagated and up in anywhere from 2-4 hours. You just can't beat that from my experience. Their support is excellent and if I feel I deserve a credit for something they just give it to me. I just upgraded due to launching a large musician and artist promotion site and they even waved the setup fee.

Naked Hosting is the shizzle!!
