I'm trying to help out one of my visitors who has very bad eye sight. Since my new design he has had problems with reading the story pages.

The weird thing is that I made those pages more clear and even using larger fonts than before.

He is using something called Zoomtext software, which magifies everything 10x.. its a expensive piece of software which I do not own.

Any ideas why its suddenly worse to read rather than better? I really would like to make sure to get it sorted out since i've taken great care in making sure the pages should be usable by all.

This is what he said:

I am Legally blind. I am unable to read. as of April, 30 08 at about 12:00 hours, when I logged back in to finish reading a storie, I had previously started you seem to have changed your letter size and added boldness. Subce I must magnify the letters 10x I require a nonbold fine line larger letter to be able to use my magbidyibng ZOOM Text Soft wear f can'tread your new format;it smears and becoms unreadable. PLEASE HELP, I BEg OF YOU! Your previous format(like mine) was perfect for me. See thr difference betwebe my tuping and your word (Nessage:),above this box .

Did you change the font? It seems like he is saying he needs non bold fine line font. Its kinda hard to figure out exactly what he is saying, but that is what I make of it.

Yes thats what I gather from his email as well. But I havent used bold at all. Thats the thing. Unless the increase in text size (by a fraction) has made the text really bold when you zoom it x10.

This is the kind of page he means:

I wouldn't think anything would be different unless the font changed. Maybe respond to him and ask for more specifics.

I have a friend in similar circumstances, being legally blind. He was trying out some software that seemed similar, and had the same issue. What I worked out for him, was to change his browser font size to a smaller one, it had been maxed out, and continued to lower the font size by the browser, until it was more readable by the software.

Pain in the butt for him, because not all sites use the same size of font, or font, some when increased in size thicken, as if bold. Ariel is one of those that seem to thicken the smaller they get, verdana thicken as it gets larger, go figure.

By working a combination of smaller browser rendering, he was able to use the fancy software. Not sure what magnification it used, as he was merely testing it, and passed on it.

Thanks! I think thats it. And yes you are right. Verdana does act like that, it goes bolder but in big jumps and because I use relative size of all text i guess he could then just lower it through the browser..

Ill ask him to do that. Thank you!
