I don't get it. This past week I was out enjoying the sun and cruising my favourite profile site – what a pain in the butt. Surfing these sites is abyssmal: lots of scrolling, shrinking pages, and moving around, then enlarging other sections. I just don't get why anyone wants to surf like this. Even Corbin Fisher, which has a mobile site, wasn't much fun. The iPad screen is just too small, and for an old guy like me, it means I have to carry glasses wherever I go.

Do you really think this is going to last? Or is the thrill going to fizz?

I use mobiles for email and sometimes looking up addresses on the net. other than that I'm with you. I can't stand the small format, fail to see the point.

I think mobiles and laptops will merge and we'll get something inbetween, the real problem they need to solve is input devices - keyboard / mouse. Something Icrap keep ignoring. I like the idea of Ipads though so maybe something long those lines but with better inputs and better support of different formats and apps. I always keep thinking of Star Trek with the mulity-function devices.

The real step and change would come when we can directly interface with devices, but that day might never come the way we are fucking up the planet.

Back on topic, I just don't get the whole surfing on your phone thing. I can understand people wanting to copy some downloads over from their PC to watch when "critical" but even then, an iPhone screen is pretty damn small! But the kids of today seem to love the idea of straining their eyes and having a crap experience.

Also, of all the models (straight and gay) that I've filmed this year all of them have said they don't buy porn (and laugh at the thought of paying for it!) - they ALL go to tubes to get off.

A lot of sites are just to big in size to work properly on a phone, but some fit perfectly on the little screen.

I think we'll end up with something between a mobile and a laptop as well. I think Lenovo is on the right track with their Ideapad Hybrid U1. It's a normal laptop, but you can take the screen with you and use it as a Pad.

I think it might be a generational thing. Younger folk might not mind it as much as older folk. I hate texting, but teenagers love it. I think the touch ignition switch in cars is stupid - yet there it is.

Im not really a fan of mobile sites i think sometimes they make a site look horrible except for the iphone app for facebook I love that :D. But they must work well as so many sites are now doing them.

Welcome to the forum Nathan

I guess I am one of those old farts when it comes to mobile porn. I remember when monitors were still 14inches and the surfers kept whining, demanding bigger and more clear monitors, and now we are at what, 24inch and higher for our desktops?

So why then are we so intent on also having sites able to be viewed on a tiny 4 inch screen? Even the 'wife' prefers to watch on his 22 inch monitor not his cel, though he does like taking pics with it, then transferring them to the desktop to really enjoy them.

One thing for certain, it makes life as a webmaster interesting :bang:

as previously stated I think it'll merge. I have a BB bold 9700 and while it surfs the web well, some sites it just doesn't get along with. I'm with you though I hate looking at video or anything like that on the phone, it's too small and awkward. However, there are a lot of people out there who like it. Right now though I don't think it's a primary device for surfing but something to use while you're out and about. checking maps, weather, info I need at that very moment etc.

I can tell you though that developing a mobile site is a real pain in the ass. I thought it would be easier then building a full site but there are way more limitations to consider and getting it to work with virtually every web capable phone out there is a pain.

When you think of mobile, think of the end user of porn:

-a phone is your own private tool, unlike the "family" computer in the living room that everyone has access to.
-if you work in a cubicle like many people do, a phone is easier to look at and be discrete than your office computer.
-computers at work have porn filters and some people could lose their jobs if someone checked their surf history. If it's a tightly controlled network you wouldn't be able to install any software to erase your history either.
-young people live in cramped quarters in dorms and such. A quickie j/o with the phone under the sheets is easier than moving the laptop or Mom's hand-me-down tower computer.

The lack of speed and reliable signals on phones will boost interest in cheap, fast hook-up sites rather than elegantly designed video-rich pay sites.

My sage predictions.

taking the screen with you does not make the screen larger, does it ;-)

I showed Bjorn something the other day wich I think might be a way of doing it ... almost done now :D

Yeah for sure! Its a generational mindset, we have had 3G networks with full tv and video in Australia for 6 or 7 years, when I went back last month for holidays absolutely everyone owned an iPhone and everyone was browsing sites or sharing videos. I think N.America is finally getting there thanks to its leap into 3G+ networks.

No it doesn't, but it doesn't need to get bigger. The screen size is 1366x768 (so this is the size of the pad if you take it out).

The problem with this machine right now is that the release date got pushed back until sometime early next year. They are also switching from Linux to Android. I was excited in the project when they were going to put a custom Linux in the machine as it would actually be a laptop with a proper OS. I am just not so sure how great the Android OS is as a "laptop".

btw. Here is the official statement from Lenovo. (It doesn't sound all that encouraging.)

“After careful consideration of market conditions and user feedback, Lenovo has decided to focus its resources on building a family of next-generation mobile internet devices based upon open technologies such as (but not limited to) the Android kernel, similar to the Lenovo smartphone, which is available for sale in China now.

As a result of Lenovo’s strategic shift towards open standards such as an Android kernel based environment, the Company has shelved its plans to release the initial version of the Skylight smartbook that featured a proprietary Linux based OS.

Lenovo remains committed to working with our strategic partners to deliver innovative products in the growing mobile internet space, including the aforementioned smartphones and smartbooks, as well as exploring innovative new concepts that continue to “push-the-envelope” like the U1 hybrid PC.”

True, I am not quite sure what to expect from Android either. I think we have to wait for a few more weeks, eh months, eh years to find it out :)

Besides personal preferences - I also don't like to navigate with the phone- I think of the following

- use of mobiles is a trend for younger people
- according to Adam, younger customers are not willing to pay for porn (and I agree)

So, in view of these two considerations: is there a future for mobile porn business? Are we ever gonna find a way to sell porn through the mobile? Is anyone already doing it succesfully?

Rather than rolling out a mobile only site and spending all that time and money. Would it not be better to offer MP4 ( iphone and mobile downloads from your main site? as a bonus to your members who might want to watch the occasional video from there mobile device? I'm not sure why someone would join a mobile only site? at least not in any large numbers. I can see someone if they happen to be without there computer one day and want to get-off! Picking up there phone and watching the new mobile video of the week they just downloaded from markwolff.com. Not sure if they would really use or want a mobile only version. Seems like a very small demographic to be going after, at least right now.
I can understand a big program like Topbucks wanting to be the first on board with mobile. Brings attention to there program, they have probably picked up lot's of new affiliates with it.
Funny i remember 3-4 years ago people telling me mobile was the next big thing. I do know that i have had several emails over the past 6 months from companies offering me there service to convert my site to mobile. Telling me i'm missing out on huge $$$$. So at least there making money.

lol That's awesome! I want one!

Watching any kind of media on a phone is a royal pain in the ass to me too. It's certainly for the younger crowd. I guess most of them will be blind, as well as deaf (from loud iPods), when they get older. Something to look forward to. ;)

I don't mind instant messaging on my PC or laptop, but that texting stuff is just not for me. Maybe it's my fat thumbs, I don't know. My partner is very fast at texting, but I just fumble at it. Yet I can type 100 wpm with 96% accuracy on a regular keyboard. A phone keyboard is just too damn small.

I think mobile is probably going to turn out as a phased out fad for the adult business. I mean, we've all answered the question pretty much. Newest Generation --> Mobile --> Laugh at the thought of paying for porn. How can it become profitable if they won't purchase memberships on their mobile devices, or an any device for that matter?

What would be a good thing to research is how many surfers from our actual paying demographic (my stats say ages 39-55 approximately), are purchasing memberships from mobile devices. If there is a good percentage, then it's profitable. If not, it's a complete waste of time in my opinion.

loving the generalisations in this thread.. we operate just mobile sites..so facts to share;

- we get great conversions from iPhone and iPad - even USA, not just Europe
- even guys over 25 watch gay porn on a cellphone
- there are millions more out there who don't have computer access,

So we're working away here bringing that market to you..

- if you're a webmaster not monetising your mobile traffic - well it's easy to get on board - links below - and we can help with landing page, re-directs etc

- if you own a paysite and have no strategy for mobile - let's talk

if you don't believe me - fine - no problem, but still let's chat anyway ;)

cheers

Awww you're all making me feel so young :D

I love watching movies on my iPhone - porn or not. I have gigas of movies and tv series episodes that I watch on the phone. It's always available, and so much more accessible than turning on the laptop. The laptop is heavy (compared to a phone), and takes forever to start (compared to a phone) and is far less private (compared to a phone) - even at home.

Of course mobile phone is going to be a huge success - probably already is.

I ***LOVE*** that you can hop on a plane or in a car or go anywhere and watch your favourite movies or videos or listen to your fav music, all on your phone...you don't even have to think about carrying around a laptop or netbook since you pretty much always have your phone on you.

Watching any kind of movie in a mobile phone or a laptop is so much fun. But it is always difficult if you intend to watch this movie over a movie hosting website since their website is not user friendly. Lots of clicks here and there and it's just taking too much of your time and kills the excitement.

But over-all, the technology of watching a movie anytime anywhere has amazingly evolved!
