Hello All,
One of our central email addresses, queerclick@gmail.com, has been compromised.
You may receive a message from Dan graciously requesting that you wire him $2000 in Nigeria to help his ailing cousin.
Please refrain... I know that charity comes from all of your hearts, but I can guarantee that Dan does not currently have an ailing cousin who certainly does not live in Nigeria.
Thanks!
M.

Speaking of cousins in Nigeria, I have 10 cousins in Nigeria. If anyone wants to send me 20.000 dollars, please PM me for wire details. I'll take epass too.
Just kidding, I hope this hasn't caused anymore inconviences for you guys.

Too late. I already sent it. Can you hook me up with $2k worth of free advertising on QC to compensate me for my loss? ;)
wow, I remember years ago this Nigeria thing in exploding on dating/chat sites. Almost everyone gets one every so many weeks or months. Maybe still do. On the other hand, it's incredible how far they would go, to hack sites like QueerClick.

Of course you did!
Yes, email me and we'll make sure to compensate.
Luckily, queerclick@gmail.com was an email address that we replaced a few years ago with affiliates@queerclick.com
We kept it alive as many of the companies we worked with have not updated their files and were still sending to it. PLEASE UPDATE!
Overall it's more annoying than bothersome.
We are getting it back and YES everything has different passwords, so the security breach is minimal.

Most likely due to keylogger trojan that was on a local workstation.

It's interesting, the last couple of times I've logged on ICQ I've received Russian spam...from someone that I know who is on my contact list! All this happened shortly after I read on here that ICQ was bought by a Russian company.
I'm really getting less and less comfortable with using ICQ these days.
daily ICQ use = rejecting x number of spam
Sort of like renting an apartment in some (any) major cities = routine roach control

I have to Control Alt Delete to shut down ICQ now. As of a week or two ago, it stopped allowing me to click the X or the File Menu.
I only use it to ask program owners where my late checks are, so no big inconvenience.

One of my mainstream client's email has been compromised. Got this yesterday:
Good Morning,
I'm writing this with tears in my eyes, sorry I did not inform you about my trip.I actually made a quick travel to London and unfortunately attacked and mugged at gun point on the way to my hotel, all cash, credit card and cell were stolen off me but luckily I still have my passport with me.
I`ve been to the embassy and the Police here but they're not helping issues at all and my return flight leaves anytime from now but I`m having problems settling the hotel bills and the hotel manager won't let me leave until I settle the bills.
Am freaked out at the moment..
Of course the reply email address is one letter different than her actual email address (her name@yahoo.com). Amazing.

Ugh no shame. I received one from a US soldier in China with a story seeking help. Since when did the United States Army open bases in China...
