View Full Version : Massive good traffic from blogspot sites
A few bloggers that have blogs on Blogspot put one of my blogs on their blogroll and as a result I was getting truly massive amounts of traffic from them. Sometimes more than 5000 hits a day.
Now the number one referrer has removed most of his blogroll links, including mine.
So I guess the free traffic boost I was getting during the last 6 months is now over :(
What I was wondering, though, is how do blogspot bloggers manage to make such a huge following? Looking at their blogs, they are usually not better than wordpress blogs (to put it mildly).

Blogspot is a service from Google and the blogs rank high in SE results. Most established Blogspot blogs have a PR3 or PR4 as well. I love trades with blogs on Blogspot !

So it's because Google cares for its own. Yes that makes sense, thanks!
I will see who I can exchange links from Blogspot bloggers now.
BTW. Would it be beneficial to make a few of your own blogs on Blogspot, and link from them to your main blogs, just in order to get that magic traffic?

Problem is it's only a matter of time before those blogs gets removed. Blogger has since the last 3-6 months been aggressivly cleaning up adult sites. They have also introduced a very easy "report site" option.
I have to delete 20 or more blogger blogs each week that no longer exists from Bestmaleblogs.com (http://www.bestmaleblogs.com).
This is also why I'm setting up a free blog host because there are lots of good adult hobby bloggers with some real good blogs worth having / visiting.

Somehow I doubt that Google will throw all that good traffic just like that.
It's somewhat sad that so much power is concentrated in just one company (Google). I think there is still definitely demand for porn (despite bad economy), but younger generations know only to browse Blogspot or illegal tubes, and rarely come directly to visit professional affiliate blogs.
In any case, it would be great if your free blog hosting really took off so that free bloggers don't have to depend on Google's whims anymore.

It sounds like you're abandoning the idea of Google for easy traffic, but if anyone else thinks it's easy traffic. Be careful.
I had a blog on blogger for a couple of years, was getting some great traffic and then (without any warning) Google canceled the account. I took a huge hit to my total traffic count, my monthly conversion ratio sank so low that I don't even bother reading the monthly "how are sales this month for you" posts, and discovered that Google not only deletes the blogger account but anything tied to it. So, for me, that meant I lost all my analytics, my mail, all the subscribers to my Feedburner and anything uploaded to Picasa.
I'll do link exchanges with people on Blogger, but I'll never do anything adult on blogger again and I'm keeping my dependencies on Google's applications to a minimum. I'm certainly backing up all critical information from these apps regularly.
Here is Google's terms and conditions for blogs on Blogspot:
Adult Content: We do allow adult content on Blogger, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. But, please mark your blog as 'adult' in your Blogger settings. Otherwise, we may put it behind a 'mature content' interstitial.
There are some exceptions to our adult content policy:
* Do not use Blogger as a way to make money on adult content. For example, don't create blogs where a significant percentage of the content is ads or links to commercial porn sites.
* No incest or bestiality content: We do not allow image, video or text content that depicts or encourages incest or bestiality.
So, as long as you don't put affiliate links to the pics Google won't delete your blog. That's at least how I understand this.
They likely won't delete all porn blogs then.

True!
Having blogspot blogs yourself is worth it. You can pass the surfers and PR juice (which is high on blogspot) on to your real affiliate blogs by adding links to your sites. It's just another way of creating your own backlinks.
That sounds really good to say the least. I would love to do it. However, blogger has a well known risky and unpredictable relationship with adult blogger sites. I just have a distrustful feeling about doing anything adult on blogger - they've suddenly canceled so many sites, and some I cannot figure out why. The rules look clear but their actions don't. It would be fantastic to have a blogspot that feeds high traffic volume to my blog(s). I wouldn't be as concerned except I would not want to lose Google Analytics for my affiliate blog(s) just because of a blogspot thing. If that were not the case and I could just instantly start another blogspot, I would feel more comfortable.
Link trades sound safer, but I don't have the experience on this to give anything but an opinion.

I agree with Tim. For what it's worth, my blogger site that was deleted was:
* non-nude
* no blurred out sections to hide the naughty bits
* non-lascivious acts (e.g. no pics of one guy kneeling in front of another)
* nothing that would violate their "teen porn concepts" (e.g. the site didn't have the words twink, boy, boys, boyz, etc)
* no banners
* no video (including embedded youtube)
There was just one link per post.
They didn't "put it behind a 'mature content' interstitial." One day it was there. The next it wasn't.
I think it all depends on who happens to review your site.
As far as link exchanges, every 3 months or so I have to go through and drop the blogspot sites that google has deleted.
Teddy, you say:
There was just one link per post.
I think that was the reason they deleted your blog. They say in their TOS they don't allow making money directly from Blogspot sites (i.e. linking to sponsors).
But, you can use your Blogspot site just to send traffic to your main (wordpress) blogs using Blogroll. I think that's what would be entirely permissible according to their TOS.
P.S. I am having a hard time contacting blog owners. So far out of some 10 people I emailed (I used the email they keep on Blogspot in their profile), only one guy replied. What is the best way to contact blog owners on Blogspot when you want to do a link exchange?

Hi Tim,
Your blog doesn't have to be explicit. There are many "beautiful guy" types of blog with massive traffic. Blogger won't delete a blog over some bare chests.
Or you can just choose not to show any hardcore action. This blog http://www.myministryofpleasure.com survives since 2006 and this guy has built a great blog, which is very popular as well.
To be really safe, you can create a seperate Google account just for the blog. One that isn't linked to your analytics or gmail account.
Doing linktrades with blogspot blogs is ok of course, but just like Teddy said, you need to check those every once in a while.

Not true.
Most of the blogs I've seen deleted do not have any affiliate links, the only thing in common are that they have porn/nudity.
I really don't think it matters what the Terms and Condition says. If a site get reported I'm sure they just delete it if they notice it has nudity on it.
On another note, I've had to delete the Free blog host. The platform I was going to use (wordpress mu) is utter rubbish and full of bugs. I'm hoping the new version 3 will be better so hold off until then and see.

That's another problem with blogger sites. I have found that people who create blogs for fun instead of profit have a different mindset. I've had people reject linking with my blog because there wasn't any nudity. I've also had people reject linking with the same blog because they thought it was too risque. There is also a portion who refuse to link to affiliate sites (who knows why).
I'm not sure if anyone else has any tricks. But I just send out emails, link with who responds.
Always enjoy your input, Pocoloco.
Sign in as another account is an idea. Just wonder if when they see my name if they'll connect that with my other Google account. (For Google Analytics, which is under my company name but I still had to give my own name.) I guess I have a fear of Google.
You know what, I think maybe waiting until Bjorn can find something he thinks works good for his free hosting might be something worth considering.
This may sound blasphemous, but I love blogger blogs, though I don't have time anymore to hardly glance at them. They're so homemade, some are really creative, done for pure fun and the pleasure of sharing or so it appears. BIG problem is the pics and videos are mostly all stolen. The bloggers think it's OK by just writing "If you see something that is yours and want it removed, just tell me and I'll remove it immediately." They see other bloggers writing this and naively think it must be OK when it is meaningless. Blogs like myministryofpleasure might be just lucky, since he's posting pics and videos that I doubt he has permission to. I didn't look deeply into the archives, but so far no hardcore but definite nudity and JO video clips on his site.
Forgot the name of a blogger site that was taken off last year, a real tragedy. Maybe he eventually broke a rule, who knows. He was a guy probably in his early twenties, a kind man. Loved underwear and his site was all very tasteful and sexy pics he took of himself in different underwear. It was not "nude," though there were thongs. It was very creative, beautiful sexy pics/photography all his own. He'd make a great fashion photographer but was only an amateur. He just loved to do that and share what he made, and I think he was surprised anyone thought it might be any that special from my few emails to him long ago. His site was taken down.
The blogger rules seem vague sometimes. For example,"don't create blogs where a significant percentage of the content is ads or links to commercial porn sites." That's subjective. It really does sound like it's up to whoever reviews the complaint or site. I feel (so this is conjecture) that blogger doesn't seem to mind people starting adult sites. But the second any kind of potential "trouble" happens, maybe a complaint no matter if not substantial, Google wants hands off the whole issue and dumps the site.
This same thread (I think?) was posted on another site, and someone reported they also had a great loss of traffic when a group of blogger sites were taken down. But he also reported sales went slightly up nonetheless. His conclusion was that the quality of traffic is what counts, and implied blogger traffic isn't worth it. I would be interested if others who get a lot of traffic from blogger sites (via link exchanges) find it doesn't covert well or make much of a dent in sales, or if it does.

I don't think your supposed to use sponsors content without adding links to the sponsor, so the photos you use would have to be ones you purchase, otherwise I am sure the affiliate program that owns the photos would not appreciate you using their photos and videos to promote your own blogs.

Most of the times, those bloggers do have links to the sponsor sites, but without an affiliate ref link. They just don't know affiliate programs excist.

if i remember correctly google started deleting gay blogs with a methodical vengeance.
list here (http://googlebloggerclosesgayblogs.blogspot.com/)
the deleted list is huge at well over 200.
on the face of it doesn't seem like there's a pattern.
some were essentially splogs while others were most definitely hobbies with zero effort at monetization
more than few blogs migrated to nibblebit
but i haven't heard what's been happening lately.
