I'd like to get some feedback on accepting Blogspot blogs at a link directory. Up until this point, I haven't allowed them and say so in my submission rules. Of course, it doesn't look as though some people aren't reading them, because they're still submitting their Blogspot blogs. LOL.

I'm talking about blogs that don't host stolen content or anything of course. Something like this - http://bantherazor.blogspot.com/ - Good looking men and a cool theme etc, but still hosted on Blogspot.

Feedback?

Thanks

Blogspot supports illegal file sharing blogs and, like most other freehosts, constantly shuts down blogs. For these two reasons, I will not accept blogspot blogs on our directories.

RDude,

I say this with great respect.

There are still a few of us who pay for hosting, design our own bLogs from the ground up, and make a serious attempt at writing and presenting new material.

As the big hunk Luke mentions, some of the bLogs there are less than reputable.

Last week, there was at least one bLog which triggered my virus protection, trying to use the superannuated .pdf in an iframe approach.

(Protect your self - do this: Find your adobe folder, and copy the "reader" folder into another location. Then visit control panel "add/remove software" and remove adobe reader. It will still be available, although you'll have to launch it yourself. It will be out of the registry, which means a page cannot command it to launch in the background and cannot exploit its many flaws.)

At least I have full control over my shit - I spider daily to make sure nobody has exploited my pages and that my surfer experience is the best I can make it.

PM me or email me at ray@rottenray.com - let's try to trade more traffic.

I am not rejecting blogspot hosted blogs by default, but I look at those blogs case by case and keep monitoring what they are doing and to see if the blogs haven't been removed by Blogger.

Some people do a very good job with their blogspot-blogs and I cannot see why I shouldn't list those. As long as they play by my rules (not posting anything illegal or posting full length movies) it's ok for me.

I accept blogspot blogs providing they are legitimate, legal blogs and have a bit of history. There is no real overhead when it comes to deleting them as it's handled by the script, so the fact that blogspot may randomly delete one isn't a major concern to me if the others are good quality.

For software which doesn't have these features, the overhead could be a pain.

I have a network of my own RottenRay and build my own blogs and sites from the ground up as well. Hence, the banner in my sig. All are hosted on a dedicated server that isn't cheap. Thus, I know all about the work that goes into all of it. Man..do I ever. I do appreciate the advice, but you're providing it to someone who has an idea about what they're doing I think. Modestly speaking that is. ;) I am always up for more traffic trading though!

Well...it would seem that some people are ok with blogs like I represented in my first post, while others aren't because of who they're hosted with and what some people do with the free service. My main concern is that if I start accepting them, how long will it be before they begin to be deleted. I check each and every site that gets submitted at my link list, as I create screenshot thumbs for each one and manually check reciprocal links.

I will continue to keep from accepting them, as I too see more bad ones than good ones. It really is a drag though, as some of the legit blogs get very good traffic. Oh well...

Here is the problem with freehosts:
http://sunnyblogs.com
http://www.mypornblogger.com
http://www.sexblogshost.com
http://enohost.net

...all gone or now redirecting traffic. And seriously, a blog takes so little traffic that you can get away with a $6.99/yr domain name and a $1.95/mo plan and be fine. If you can't do that, then maybe you shouldn't be blogging!

I certainly agree. Some people are just damn cheap though I guess. I don't know.
