View Full Version : Another Update Thread

Not trying to trump Alex's best practices thread, but yesterday I was thinking about the way Butch Dixon updates.

We currently do a photo set on Monday and Wednesday and a video on Saturday. There's not really any rhyme or reason as to how the photo sets are scheduled to appear, but I was thinking maybe it would be better to change it.

Right now, "John" might show up in his photo set this week and "Mark" might show up next week in his photo gallery, and then, a week later "John and Mark" are in a video together. I've always staggered the updates like this to keep variety going and I think it might "up" the tease factor.

But I'm wondering if we should try this: "John" photo set on Monday, "Mark" photo set on Wednesday, and then, "John and Mark" video on Saturday. It seems like it might build to a nice climax (pardon the pun). But I'm worried that if surfers aren't turned on by "John" and "Mark" they've got a whole week of them, and sales could suffer.

Thoughts?

Always foremost in my mind is the marketability (is that a real word) of models. I know that there are models that create a ghost town for joins and when I discover this I would be really distressed to think that an entire week was to be devoted to them. I like the variety for sure. I don't think they have to be related at all but rather a thoughtful mix.

I love medium rare tenderloin but three course of it would be two too many. Add a wedge salad and a single scoop of perfect vanilla gelato and I am a very happy man.

Okay. Time for supper.

I'm not keen on that idea to be honest for a couple of reasons.

1. Would surfers really notice the build up? How likly are they to come back 3 times in a single week without joining just to check your updates?

2. It might actually give an impression of being less fresh if every 3 updates they see the same guy again. It's not the same set, but even so what might stand out is whats similiar rather than a "build up".

I wouldn't do it like that either. John may be super hot and some of your expired members might just re-join when they see him reappear a few weeks later in a hardcore scene!

It pretty much depends on what a site is trying to accomplish. If I go to a site and don't like the last couple updates then it is unlikely that I will dig back through other pages to see if there is something that I do like. If I don't like the most recent update and if there is an entire week before the next batch of new stuff comes along, I am more likely to cancel and go look else where. But if I see that new stuff is being added all the time, then I am more likely to go back often and make the site a part of what I do when I want to get off alone. That is our goal, I believe, to get surfers hooked on our material and not want to go looking elsewhere? It is paramount for us since rebills far exceed new joins every single day.

As an affiliate, I personally like the way you put our your updates Michael. It leaves me with lots to choose from when deciding who and what to blog about.

In regard to how you put out updates for Butch Dixon and potential members, that's another matter. I think I would have to agree with everyone else's statements though. Variety leaves a good impression on the surfer. I'm not a site owner, but that would be my opinion as a surfer visiting Butch Dixon.

Just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents. Thanks.
