Im so exstatic right now. I had no idea that a facebook group could have this much "clout", but it has!

BBC News Story:

One of my favorite bands have got Christmas number 1 in the UK as a protest to the "Xfactor craze" that has bored so many people for years.

All started by a facebook group.
I think this could show us all how powerful social networks can be :)

Merry Christmas everyone!
And if your in the UK don't forget to watch Rage Against The Machine just before the Queens Speach on Christmas Day! :)

And when Sony own both artists, it makes no difference...

i love RATM, and we used to play killing in the name of and bulls on parade when we were doing covers, but i think it's going pretty far to say this changed christmas.

Maybe a bit far to say it changed christmas, but it's certainly going to change a lot of peoples "norm" on Christmas Day. It's become a tradition where people site down to watch The Queens Speach on Christmas Day. Before the Queens Speach they have the christmas number 1. Everyone is going to expect to hear this aweful reality TV singer but nope, Rage Against The Machine will be on :D

I'm just shocked overall at how a facebook group, in a few weeks managed to do this. I like it :)

But how do we know it was the Facebook group rather than preference for the band in general?

good point. rage against the machine has been quite famous for over 15 years, and have a huge fan base in age groups that the other artist isn't likely to have. they were also very good during the time they recorded killing in the name of.

Yes I am not overly convinced the facebook group swung it but you never know - RATM isn't exactly a 'start up' band. Do people still sit down and watch the queens speech? I prefer skiing or sitting on a beach at that time of day on christmas day.

Good points, but remember this song was released in 1992! They do have a good fan base though. I know for me "yes i bought it and joined the facebook group" it was more to do with the fact of remembing how much I loved the song.

Either way :) Im very happy

I insist on watching it.
