So apparently, as of Oct the ICQ servers no longer accept "privacy / invisible" mode connections, which means now if you login using privacy mode you are actually seen by everyone as online. Of course, that helps explain why all the ICQ spam recently too.
Well, I have had it with being spammed every day on ICQ, so I am no longer keeping it on. If you want to chat, please email or PM me and I will turn on ICQ for very brief periods so we can chat.

Don't blame you. I have to block a few spammers each day.
I almost never keep my ICQ on unless I'm expecting someone to be contacting me. I rarely answer my telephone either unless I'm expecting your call. I just can't be bothered. I'm all about texting and Email.

Interesting, as I still see a few that are 'invisible' and have to send a message to see if they are online or not. I think maybe it is changed to where you have to manually set the visibility settings, so not everyone can see. I dunno :bang:
They are aliens trying to contact us. The spam for me is almost always written in some kind of strange symbols. I just started using ICQ and am surprised how frequently I get that spam. Three so far tonight within only a couple of hours. But it's how I contact my business colleagues who aren't aliens.

yeah the strange character thing happens all the time, once i chatted with someone spamming that type of message and I kept telling him I don't understand him and asked what language it was so I can translate it...eventually he replied back and said sorry then went offline.

hmm. I did exactly the same thing and I never got any response back, sometimes just more from the same source. On one hand, I wouldn't want to reject the one in ten thousand of them who might be someone important I would want to talk to. But the more I think of it, a professional person would be sending me a sensible sentence not code, and in English, even if not perfect English.
