Uh, that really isn't good advice, the upgrade to 2.8.5 was for security reasons, and the issues in the forum, seem to relate to past editions as well.
Disable the plugin causing the issue, or try to see if you can replicate the warning by using the default theme. If it doesn't replicate, then the problem can be in how your theme is rendering the code.

Plugins can conflict with each other as well. Not a lot of fun, but I've upgraded all my blogs to 2.8.5 and have no issues that you have described.
Unfortunately the only way to tell if it is a plugin compatibility issue is to turn them all off (except Akismet) and turn them back on, one at a time, until the problem appears again. It is tedious, but about all one can truly suggest, to insure each plugin plays nice with the other kiddies.

Thanks Yan, but I simply cannot see the plugins installed. even askismet dosen't show in my plugin list.
And maybe I'm off topic here with a WP bug on a gay webmaster board...whistle

Two things, it is IAN, with an I not a Y. lol
Second, not out of place at all, why we have a special blogging forum to discuss all these things.
Okay so you can't see any of the plugins? Can you see the themes installed or available?

Sorry Ian :)
yep.. the themes works pretty well. I've tried with the default theme and I can't see the plugins either. it's soooo weird.
If you google the error i get: The plugin does not have a valid header. You'll see that I'm not alone :P

Have you installed it yourself, or your host do it?
Kind of sounds like a corrupt file or something. You might want to check the htaccess file, also the permissions for the folders. While not secure, changing the folder (wp-content) and (plugins) to 777 might solve the issue, as it seems like somehow wordpress admin isn't reading the directory. I'd see if the plugins is chmod to something other than 775.
If that don't work, I'd save my config.php file to my hdd, somewhere safe, then I'd delete the entire wordpress install, other than the config.php file. Then re-install the works, to see if that doesn't correct it.
Other than that, not too sure what else to try.
hth, fingers crossed.
Of course, I am assuming you don't have a ton of posts already done, but if you do, simply use the tools > export feature. That will give you a copy you can import later when you re-install. Assuming you need to go that route.

The few times I've seen that exact error are when I try to use a plugin that isn't supported by the most recent version of WP.
My 2 cents

Just so you know, I've reinstall wordpress from scratch (I'Ve saved all my css before) and everything is working perfectly! Installing plugins is working like a charm!!
