I'm reviewing a site at the moment and there's quite a bit of interlacing in the videos. What causing this? Are the video over optimized, or what is it?

The videos should have been de-interlaced during encoding. It is generally a pre-checked option in most encoding programs.
Is it interlacing that you are seeing or artifacting?

I don't know. I'm seeing lines over the guy's hand as he's jacking off. I thought that was interlacing.

Its either not deinterlaced not well enough. Or the data rate is too low for the resolution size.

I have actually had this very same problem with my videos over the past few weeks. I have had a nice high quality video but crazy interlacing around the guy's hand as he jacks off.
So I have found the de-interlacing filter to throw onto the video in Final Cut. But it does reduce the resolution quite a lot.
I haven't quite figured out how to control the interlacing effect when I am first playing from the DV tape into my Mac. Is this actually possible?
No one wants to looks at jaggered edges when a guy is about to pop his load!
